Our Heritage

Originally from Elgin, Moray studied at Robert Gordon’s University in Aberdeen (and later at INSEAD) before embarking on a career in the insurance and reinsurance industry, where he acquired extensive leadership, management and main board experience. Having lived and worked in the UK, Europe and the Asia Pacific region for a number of major global organisations, including Allianz, AXA and Lloyds of London, he has developed strong and broad-based financial, risk management and team-building skills. Moray now runs his own consulting business and, as well as devoting much of his time to TRICAPITAL, holds a number of domestic and international non-exective appointments. Away from work, he enjoys cycling, travel, reading and politics.

As TRICAPITAL's Chief Executive Officer, Moray believes that his primary responsibility is to build and encourage dynamism, potency and relevance, and to ensure that the syndicate continues to provide strategic oversight, financial support, added value and leadership to its investee company customers. He is a hands-on investor passionate about innovation closely linked to monetisation, job creation and business plan delivery.

Andy qualified as a chartered accountant in 1992 and in 1995 set up his own practice which, after 20 years of growing, was sold in 2015 to Douglas Home & Co, to whom he now acts as a business consultant. Since 1999, he has been a director in Adam Purves Galashiels Ltd, a well-established family business with multiple and diverse interests.

Andy was involved in the founding of TRICAPITAL Ltd and, as well as being the Company Secretary and an active investor, has over the years helped guide both investors and investee companies.

Over the years, he has gained considerable exposure to a very wide range of business experiences, through his own business interests, and acting for clients in various different sectors and growth and development phases.

Kathy has a law degree from Edinburgh University and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, where she did her CA training at Thomson McLintock – a forerunner of KPMG. She subsequently completed a part-time MBA at Strathclyde University. Kathy has 30 years’ experience in young company investment, working as Investment Director with Lothian Enterprise and the West Lothian Council/Bank of Scotland joint venture fund West Lothian Venture Fund. She has worked with Braveheart Investments and Scottish Enterprise, where she did an early evaluation of how to promote the Scottish Seed Fund, and since 2008 has been Investment Manager for TRICAPITAL.

Kathy has been a member of the BVCA regional committee, a member of the European Seed Fund Network, on the committee of the Business Forum and Connect on the board and subsequently the Advisory Committee of Scottish Enterprise Borders and South, and is currently involved with a number of local investment networks.
